Standards of Ethical Practice for Gestalt Pastoral Care

Our code (standard) of ethical behavior is rooted in our understanding of the sacred nature of this

We believe that God undergirds this ministry and calls us to high ethical standards.

We are committed to:

  •  Actively promoting the workers’ best interests,
  • Honoring the commitments we make and maintaining integrity in our relationships with workers,
  • Respecting the rights of our workers and the needs of the society we are a part of.

In order to embody these commitments, as ministers of GPC:

  • We pursue and maintain high standards of professional competence and ethical behavior.
  • We recognize the need for ongoing continuing education, self care, and supervision in order to meet these ongoing responsibilities.
  • We are intentional about knowing the limitations of our competence and we refer our workers to other professionals when their needs exceed the level of competence we possess.
  • We maintain confidentiality. However, we make the following exceptions to confidentiality:

  1. to prevent clear and imminent danger to the worker or others,
  2. when we are legally bound to reveal confidential information
  3. when a minor’s welfare is in danger.

  • We do not engage in any sexual behavior or harassment with workers under our care.
  • We make clear agreements with our workers about the process of GPC, as it relates to their purpose in seeking us out for help and support.
  • We assess conflicts of interest and seek help and supervision when we are unsure of the best course of action.
